The use of brown coal pond ash as a replacement of cement in concrete masonry bricks

The project will investigate a range of strategies to develop a commercial process based upon the results from the previous research to create geopolymer bricks from brown coal pond ash.

Project Objectives:
  1. Develop an optimised mix design for geopolymer concrete masonry bricks considering the reaction kinetics and microstructure of the new material and variability of Brown Coal ash, incorporating supplementary additives.
  2. Investigate engineering performance
  3. Investigate the environmental impact assessment including lifecycle cost analysis.
  4. Investigate methods of improving the developed product to suit the commercial production environment and apply upscaled brick product in a pilot demonstration project with AGL and monitoring the field performance
