This project is creating a smart digital platform to track waste and match it with practical solutions. Led by RMIT in partnership with Huddersfield University and industry partner MacDonald Lucas Pty Ltd, the project is also working closely with local councils.
The main goal is to help councils and other organisations understand where waste is coming from, where it ends up, and how it can be better managed. The platform will track waste materials, costs, and environmental impact, include a searchable list of possible solutions for different types of waste, map waste flows to support better planning and decision-making, and build a knowledge base of products made from common waste streams.
The tool will be delivered in collaboration with MacDonald Lucas and shaped by feedback from local councils to make sure it’s practical and easy to use.
Research grants available for waste projects
Collaboration opportunities with government bodies, LGAs and academic institutions
The platform is a customisable tool that can grow over time and be adapted to different regions and industries
Councils can use the tool to find new ways to divert waste from landfill, and plan waste services and make informed decisions using real data
